Reijiro TSUMURA (1942 -) is a Noh actor.

He actively performs in foreign countries and explores new realms of activity including joint production and performances with Western music composers and opera singers and collaborative performance with modern dramas. He became a Human Natural Treasure in 1991.

Brief Personal History

Born in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture
1964: Graduated from Hitotsubashi University (Department of Economics)
Became a pupil of Kimiko TSUMURA at the Hitotsubashi Kanze-kai while he was a university student and learned from Yoshiyuki KANZE (second) after graduation. 1967: He became an adopted son of Masami OUCHI and Kimiko TSUMURA. April 1967: A ceremony of shukke tokudo (entry to the priesthood) was held for him at Kaikozan Butsugen-ji Temple, head temple of the Nichiren sect (disciple of Priest Itagaki Nichio Shonin). August 1967: Completed the training at Shingyo Dojo (training school) in Mt. Minobu and obtained the priesthood. 1969: Graduated from Hitotsubashi University (Department of Economics). 1970: Became a licensed instructor of the Kanze school. 1973: Participated in the National Arts Festival (Agency for Cultural Affairs) and continued participation every year thereafter. 1974: Assumed the President of the Ryokusen-kai of the Kanze school. 1991: Became a certified holder of the title of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Important Intangible Cultural Asset (Noh art in general).
